    About Rachael Spears

My name is Rachael Spears. I graduated from Briercrest College and Seminary in 2017. I have a Master of Counselling. I had personal experiences that impacted my mental health and this led to a desire to help others experience breakthrough in their lives. I have practiced in a non-profit organization and most recently as a Family Preservation Therapist. I worked with families that were looking to reunify. I am looking forward to using my experience working with attachment issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship and grief and loss to help others.

I understand what it feels like to be stuck and longing for freedom. I also understand the challenges faced by those that are struggling with mental illness, work stress, family life, relationships and trying to balance it all. I will provide a trauma-informed approach to therapy and also work with an integrative approach.

I have utilized Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness among other therapy techniques. I am always looking to increase what I can bring to our therapy sessions.

I can provide a Christian approach to counselling for those who are interested.

I am registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists (PACCP).

I do not directly bill insurance companies so please consult with your provider before you book a session if you are looking to have it covered.

Are you ready to take the first step?

    My Values

What you say in the counselling room stays in the counselling room! There are limits of confidentiality that I have to follow. If it is determined that you are a harm to yourself or others that is when I have to break confidentiality. This is of the highest importance and I will review the limits of confidentiality with you.

I desire to work collaboratively and creatively with clients. I will bring opportunities for homework and exploring things we can do to help improve moods and concerns addressed. I like to work on goals with clients and these will be goals that we've collaborated on. This may include journaling, exercise, breathing exercises and what the client feels comfortable bringing into session.

I endeavour for all my clients to feel heard and experience compassion and empathy. I understand that we can feel most vulnerable sharing our story with others. I consider it a great honour to share stories in safe places and expect you to feel cared for and heard in our session together.

My desire is to maintain the professional standards set before me. I will have case conferences with my supervisor to debrief our sessions. My supervisor may provide direction and insightful ideas to me that I would pass along in our session. My supervisor is bound by confidentiality as well. This is for my learning and growth. We will discuss this in our session together.
